Our footprint calculation is exhaustive

In order to calculate the carbon dioxide emissions of an activity (in this case the use of your website), the boundaries of the activity or system must be defined. The scholarly literature surrounding the energy intensity of data transfer uses a variety of system boundaries, which produce a variety of different findings. For our purposes, we decided to use a series of studies that had the most inclusive system boundaries. In our calculation, the emissions from Data Centers, Networking Equipment, Optical Fibers, and End Devices are all included.

We're realistic about our offset efforts

We fully understand that carbon offsets are highly contentious, at some points exploitative to the communities they try to serve, and some would argue ineffective. That is why our certification process makes every effort to create tangible energy usage and carbon savings before resorting to carbon offsets. When it comes to them, all offsets we use are verified by reputable third parties and adhere to the principle of additionality. This means that our emission offsets are a direct result of our investments and not something that would happen regardless in the business-as-usual scenario.

We're a 100% paperless business with all employees working remotely. All digital based business operations is hosted by 100% on-site solar-powered data centers.
